Error Killer review - not the best registry cleaner on the block
ErrorKiller is a registry cleaner and repair software for Microsoft Windows. It does claim to help solve error induced system failure and crashing by scanning a computer for invalid system references and file references, as well as finding errors due to missing system fonts, missing file associations, missing files, missing startup programs, invalid drivers and invalid application paths.
The Error Killer software does have some additional features such as a Startup Program Manager, but you can find a program similar built into the Windows Administration tools. There is also an Add/Remove programs manager, which is also built into Windows. Lastly they have a registry backup function, which is standard on registry cleaner software as they will backup your registry before modifying it.
Does Error Killer work?
Well, it isn't a scam, but it may not be completely effective. Although it doesn't claim to be a spyware removal program in the list of features, there is a reference to it being able to find spyware from the "Support" link at their website. However, there are negative references to their spyware capabilities found here:
ErrorKiller is a rogue anti-spyware program that may not really detect and remove spyware parasites from your computer. ErrorKiller may be secretly installed onto your system via various unethical mechanisms. ErrorKiller may scan your PC and issue false positives to try to scare you into buying the full version of ErrorKiller. ErrorKiller is not a reputable spyware removal tool, so shouldn’t remain on your system. - Enigma Software Group
Granted many of the "unethical" means are probably by marketers who make commission off of sales using unethical methods to get the software installed. Error Killer has an affiliate program whereby websites who refer people to install ErrorKiller will make a large percentage of the sale total. This fuels some people to use any means possible to get you to install the program, or will install it against your will. This is typical of any program which has an affiliate program and not unique to Error Killer. We were unable to determine whether or not it issues false positives or removes spyware.
We were unable to locate any contact information for ErrorKiller. We don't know if there is a company behind it. There is no mailing address, no city and no phone. The online support seems to only be an email address, no phone numbers. Upon closer inspection ErrorKiller appears to be nothing more than rebranded software. That is, they probably bought the rights to relabel and resell the software from another company. We were unable to determine who the real manufacturer was.
Overall ErrorKiller has a weaker feature list than other more full featured registry cleaner and error repair software utilities out there. Apparently it has some spyware removal features which some claim to be ineffective. It also appears to have less overall users which can mean less feedback to the company when problems occur. In summary, we would suggest steering clear of ErrorKiller for the reasons stated above including their lack of contact information, lack of support and lack of features.
